Song of the Moment: Fog of War By: Young Dreams

Stumbled upon this song one way or another.

The drums did it for me the first few seconds in and drive the rest of the song right along. The strange echo of the lead singers voice also makes my toes tingle, weird I know but true none the less.

But I think what has really hooked me on the song is the music video. When writing this entry I found the official video and fell for it. It’s reminiscent of a Sofia Coppola film beautifully simple with a live wire hidden in some moments.

Enjoy!

Song of the Moment: Lost Kitten By: Metric

So, it seems I have already gotten behind in doing my song of the moments everyday. However, I won’t give up this easily! I have already picked songs for the week so to make up for my lost days I am just going to post the last few days I missed in order!

I discovered Metric after seeing the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I am almost positive one of my previous song of the moment happens to be Black Sheep by this band from that very movie! They are a pretty sweet band and deserve your attention…

I dig this song mainly because it’s got a solid bass line just pushing the song along like a great fashion show anthem. The only image I can think of is watching many of the girls I work with saunter away in their high platform heels. It’s also slightly haunting at time as the lead singer seems to achingly moans her lyrics. And let’s just say that I am a fan of hauntingly pretty sounds.

Song of the Moment: 3,6,9 By: Cat Power

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bLEP_E4JoD8

Cat Power was introduced to me via someone in college. That was quite a few years ago now. I am saddened to say even though Cat Power’s name was told to me because I would totally dig her, I didn’t follow though with researching her. It wasn’t till a few days ago while shifting through various music on a musicians website that I stumbled onto this little ditty.

Cat Power has one of those deceptively mellow female voices similar to Fiona Apple yet there is a dollop of something else hiding in there. Something epic that evokes the image of Florence and the Machine. It’s as if her vocal cords begin a gymnastic routine about a minute in and all I can do it tap my willing toes. In other words I dig it.

To me the lyrics are simple but hiding in this unassuming work, under the surface is a pulsing heartbeat that pushes it forward.

Song of the Moment: Sugar Man by: Rodriguez

It has been awhile since I posted a SOM. But one of my late New Year Resolutions happens to be to post one a day. Ambitious, I know! But still worth the effort since I love new music! Whoop whoop!

Now, on to this gem of a song, the grainy quality stands out the most in my mind. There is also an other worldly and haunting quality to this song in particular. If I had to describe a scene to fit this song it couldn’t be more simply put then anything ever filmed by Tarantino.

Short and sweet today!

Cheers!

Song of the Moment: Re-wired

By: Kasabian

Kudos for the Tarantino reference at the end. It’s smirk worthy.

Besides that this song just aches to be belt out loud.

“Hit me! Harder! I’m getting re-wired / I flip the switch that make you feel electric / Even! Faster! Than before / I’m gonna light ‘em up with you / I’m gonna light ‘em up with you”

Song of the Moment: I Like It

By: Foxy Shazam

Last night in New Orleans Louisiana I saw Foxy Shazam. It was a highly entertaining show. I had been introduced to their music via a friend almost a year ago and thought, “Why not convince some friends to see this show?”

What resulted was a performance of pure energy and epic-ness like you couldn’t imagine. Last week I saw another band in New Orleans and they did an outstanding job but watching Foxy Shazam last night reminded me that music is about performance as well. The lead singer was an amazing show pony with singing chops like the best of them. (Oddly enough the producer of the Darkness is the producer of Foxy Shazam. When you listen to the lead singer’s voice you can’t escape the uncanny likeness the two groups share.) Headstand after back flip after shoulder ride just added icing on the cake. Then at the very end he ate 6 whole lit cigarettes.

And people say Rock N’ Roll is dead. Well baby I got news for you…

Welcome to the Church of Rock N’ Roll.

Song of the Moment: Wandering Eye

By: Fat Freddy’s Drop

This song pressures my urges to hope on a plane to a foreign land and get lost exploring a culture solitary. Just working to travel distant lands. The fantastic thing is that there are so many beautiful places to see and explore.

I am in need of another fantastic adventure and voyage.

“Make you wander with that rhythm / Feel it moving, through your system"
